Another very cold overcast day of cycling - low 40s - but wearing 4 layers did as long as we kept moving.
We left the very old town of Deventer as church bells played. Crossing the river, the town looked splendidly European with cattle grazing the pastures on the other side,
We rode a couple hours through the countryside before reaching Appeldorn and our first stop at the royal palace / museum of Het Loo. We toured the amazing palace stuffed with the history of Hollands royalty. There was good english narration via handheld audio guide. The Dutch tourists especially the ladies were clearly reverent towards the royal queens and with reason as Hollands queens apparently were / are champions of the people and did much to improve society!
We pedaled a ways further to visit a zoo called Apeheul. Tammy and I enjoy animals especially primates. During my planning I had discovered this unique zoo. Unique, because it specializes in primates and many displays are free ranging. This means you walk among them without bars! It was so well done! And the variety was great too. Most of the species had multiple young which was entertaining as says a lot about the quality of the facility.
Starved, we chewed down Pannakoken to have the energy for the rest of the day. And eventually arrived late at our hotel / restaurant. A light but elegant dinner concluded our exhausting day. Quite upscale dining we felt a bit out of place
